The Edwards Fly Fishing heritage goes back to a time when a great outdoorsman "Mutt" Edwards threw his first fly line in the early 1900's using a bamboo rod and wooden poppers. In those days Mutt fed his family of 8 from the land he lived on. In 1970 after many years of hunting Mutts son Larry decided to throw his first fly line using the same bamboo rod his father had used so many years ago. Larry immediately took to the challenge of fly fishing and soon discovered the limitations of the fly fishing season by using top water baits. Soon after Larry started experimenting with tying his own flies that would sink to different depths to not only extend the fly fishing season but to catch a variety of species.  Larry became consistent on the flies he tied and the depths they sank as well as catching the larger sized fish. In 1972 Larry designed and created his own fly rod from a glass material later known as "S" glass and was able to cast his line further than with any other rod known to be manufactured. After working on his guide alignment for the next 10 years he finally perfected the balance between rod weight, reel weight and guide alignment. He patented this unique concept in 1982 along with several other innovative products for use in fly fishing and ice fishing. Over the past 25 years Larry has assisted many rod building companies throughout the world in making a better and more productive fly rod. Larry Edwards is truly the pioneer of "wet" fly fishing as we know it today. Larry's art and compassion with fly fishing has been passed on to his son and at the age of 5 years old his son Robert started tying flies and building fly rods shortly after. The Edwards take great pride in their accomplishments in fly fishing and strive to produce the best built fly rods in the world.
